General Concept behind 2017 Cycling Jersey and Bib Design

Homage to Gino Bartali
Understated, like the man, in relation to why we are seeking to honour him, including themes of Canada and Israel,
Colour Scheme
Greyish tone for top of jersey and Blue/Grey for the bottom
Thin Pink Stripe:Reference to the Giro, Italy’s most important race. Bartali won the pink shirt in ‘36 and’ 37 and then again in ‘46
Written on the pink stripe on the back of the shirt is Bartali’s great quote “some medals are pinned to your soul” in a slightly darker pink (so it is appropriately understated, especially having regard to the quote). The narrow stripe is also classic cycling club jersey look
Front of Jersey- BBC in a sporty blue colour of the Israeli flag on the right breast
Back of Jersey- Bartali Byke Club logo in darker grey
“X” on top (which stands for collaboration), in bike chain and blue colour of Israeli flag, divided into four quadrants:
§  Crown = Bartali, King of the Mountains
§  Maple Leaf = Canada
§  Star of David = Israel
§  Cassette = Cycling
Left Shoulder – Primary Club Logo
Inner cassette blue colour of Israeli flag
Inside of cassette is sword and laurel from Haganah symbol that is now repeated in so many other symbols of Israeli forces
Also, some  will think that the sword is symbolic of struggle and associate it with the challenge suffering of cycling and the laurel its rewards
The colours within the cog (light blue, red, black, yellow and green) are the colours of the UCI (international cycling union) champion rainbow
Around the cassette is another famous Bartali quote, “I’m just a cyclist” to fill the space, with
Maple Leaf and Star of David also included
Right Shoulder:
Number 18 is reference to chai / life
